Washing and Grading

Washing and Grading

The South Australian Potato Company’s processing facility is based at Mount Barker, located 30kms east of Adelaide. Operating 6 days a week, this facility has the capacity to process over 250 tonnes per day.

After being carefully washed to remove soil, potatoes are graded and sorted using state-of-the-art digital technology that assesses product by size, weight, colour and shape. This allows us to meet each customers individual needs and requirements.

Specific packaging requirements can also be met by the South Australian Potato Company. This facility has the equipment and machinery to package potatoes into pre-pack bags ranging from 1kg to 5kg, 10kg and 20kg bulk bags and 15kg cartons.

To ensure absolute freshness and quality, potatoes are harvested, washed, graded, packaged and dispatched on the same day. Our aim is to have premium potatoes delivered to Adelaide and Melbourne within 24 hours of harvesting (including the Adelaide International Airport) and Sydney and Brisbane within 48 hours of harvesting.

Our commitment to quality has led to the development and implementation of quality systems meeting the requirements of HACCP and SQF2000 standards. An important part of this system is the SQF 2000 program, which ensures that all quality and safety hazards associated with operations have been identified and controlled. This HACCP Program has been recently extended to incorporate our growing operations, with our farms obtaining Fresh Care certification.
